I Believe You

when I tell you

the story of my life

when I open

my dusty box of time

secrets lay shining

petrified on ice

pieces of soul

waiting to be wise again

 

I am the granddaughter

of witches they didn’t burn

and I’m the grandmother

of sages yet unborn

how many more

generations will endure

the fire now is rising

a flash a rage a cure

when I tell you what I’ve survived

will you believe me

will you stay here by my side

and say you believe me

can you look into my eyes

and say you believe me

I believe you

​

the body holds

both peace and violence

the mind speaks

of shame and reverence

the heart knows blood that

spills and heals and loves

and our children are chanting

the future that must come

​

in the face of the old lie
